Westminster Crossroads Learning Program

Enrichment & Access
Westminster School

The Westminster Crossroads Learning Program in Hartford in Hartford (WCLP) represents Westminster’s effort to extend its core value of community into Hartford, Connecticut.  Thus, WCLP seeks to provide those with whom it works the same types of opportunity available to the students at Westminster School.  Further, WCLP tries to offer the Westminster School community an on-going partnership that reveals the essential perspective of Hartford's young people and the obstacles they face.

To achieve the goals associated with this mission, WCLP seeks to aid students throughout their high school career and beyond. Westminster Crossroads offers its services both during the school year and during the summer.

Summer Enrichment Program
WCLP’s Summer Enrichment Program aims to build the intellectual confidence necessary for students to flourish in their high school curriculum. Meeting four days a week from noon-3:00 pm, the Crossroads summer program commits itself to individual attention and focuses on reading, writing, math, SAT preparation, ESL tutoring, and writing the college essay.

School-Year After-School Program
WCLP faculty and volunteers maintain regular contact with Hartford Public High School students throughout the academic year. Homework help is offered and SAT prep continues.  Westminster Crossroads also provides tutoring to a Hartford middle school.  Other WCLP initiatives include serving at a Hartford soup kitchen once a month, offering a “Spring Break in Hartford” community service opportunity, and the newly instituted Civic Engagement class required of all Westminster sophomores.
