Science and Language Arts Partnership

Edward B Cole, Sr. Academy is a K-5 public charter school located in Santa Ana, CA. EBC Academy is designed to meet the educational needs of a community consisting predominately of non-English speaking, low-income, and Latino families. Students at EBC Academy have partnered with high school students from Sage Hill School (an independent high school in Newport Coast, CA) for a service-learning project. 

As part of the project, 9th and 10th graders come from Sage Hill to help 3rd and 4th grade EB Cole students with science and language arts.

While academic enrichment is the predominant goal in this project, the outcomes are much broader. Students from both schools spend an entire year getting to know their “buddy,” learning about communities other than their own, and getting inspiration for their own futures.
