Embedding Social Justice in your Community Engagement Programs

Central Question: 
Service learning has much overlap with Diversity and Inclusion work, but how do we intentionally embed social justice practice into our programs? What are the pitfalls that prevent service learning from being socially just, and how do we build programs that support a systemic understanding of social issues and action plans to address them?

This professional development session addresses:

• the inherent need to intentionally bring together Diversity and Inclusion work and community engagement and social impact programs.
• Ways to ensure programs at schools are addressing the underlying systemic foundations of social issues and providing students with a socially just lens on which to build action.
